Significance: Cabin 4, chosen for documentation as an archetypal stone cabin at Bastrop, was completed in 1935. The plan is asymmetrical, with a living room and kitchen, which share a fireplace, and 2 sleeping porches. The exterior walls narrow as the stones become more finished towards the roof, making the cabin appear to grow out of the earth. In 1938, a bathroom was incorporated into the cabin by dividing one of the bedrooms. Later, the sleeping porches were enclosed and the wood casement windows replaced by aluminum sash windows. Electricity and gas were also added, the kitchen was modernized, and the original floors were replaced by composition tile.
