Building/structure dates:
1882 initial construction
Significance: Once the judicial and transportation hub for interior Alaska, adjacent to Ft. Egbert, the military and communications center, Eagle began as a fur trading post (Belle Isle) rose to international fame when Roald Amundsen wired his successful voyage through the Northwest Passage and as part of the Gold Rush, declined in prominence but remains in existence.
