Significance: Constructed in 1918, Building No. 140 is a one-story facility that originally functioned as a latrine and later as the brig's visitor's lounge and administrative offices. Building No. 140 is one of only a small number of extant buildings at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola that date from World War I when the installation served as the Navy's primary center for flight training. Although not directly related to the station's primary mission, Building No. 140 did provide support functions to installation personnel. It is situated within the boundaries of the Pensacola Naval Air Station Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has also been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Building No. 140 is one of many buildings at the station that sustained damage by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.
