Significance: The well casing is located along the lower south slope of Horse Thief Draw about 1.7 miles northwest of the town of Superior. The casing consists of a section of steel pipe extending vertically into the ground. The casing has an external diameter of 10.5 inches and an internal diameter of 10.0 inches. The pipe extends 7 inches above present ground surface. The depth of the pipe was undetermined, however, the presence of water at a considerable depth was noted. The pipe lacks threading at the upper end as well as any weld marks. Within the immediate vicinity of the well casing no trace of a derrick pumphouse or any other type of structure was noted. A broken and discarded drill bit was found approximately 16 inches north of the casing, however, not other mechanisms associated with the drilling or use of the well were observed.
