Significance: The Boswell Observatory, constructed in 1883-84, was the second building to be built on the Doane College campus in Crete, Nebraska. It is a small building which was built to house Doane's astronomy and weather science programs. The observatory originally consisted of four rooms: the clock room, the transit room, the scope room, and an office that was intended to be used for a second transit. An addition was erected in 1892 to house a classroom and equipment for the Nebraska Weather Service.
