Unprocessed field note material exists for this structure (FN-330).
Building/structure dates: 1693 initial construction
Significance: The Captain William Smith House was built in 1692-93 and, although altered, retains original features such as the plaster cove of the front cornice, an element that flourished in Massachusetts from the late 1600s until around 1725. The house originally had casement windows and a very large central chimney.
