Significance: Inclined Plane 9 West was the largest of the Morris Canal's 23 inclined planes and was one of only 3 double tracked planes in the canal system. Over 80% of the canal's lift was provided for through the use of inclined planes, making them an indispensable part of the canal system. The owner of plane 9 West, James Lee, has excavated the wheel pit to expose the scotch turbine that powered Plane 9.
