Significance: The Leesburg Mining District is one of the earliest gold mining camps in Idaho. It was established in 1866 during the Placer Mining Boom. The area has continued to be mined sporadically by small-time placer and lode mine operators since that time. The small community of Leesburg served as the district's commercial and social center until World War II.
