Significance: Its significance arises from its role in the development of transportation networks on the Colorado plains during the late 19th century. During the 1860s and 1870s the road provided access to John W. Iliff's ranch and others along the South Platte River from the Goodnight-Loving Cattle Trail. Additionally, the road offered pioneers a route between the Snoky Hill North Trail and the South Platte Trail, two of the foremost pioneer trails to Colorado.
