Significance: The Central Barracks is one of the two surviving structures at the Academy which were designed and erected under the guidance of Major Richard Delafield. These designs were an attempt to form a common architectural image for the Academy in the mid 19th century and they later influenced the work of Cream, Goodhue and Ferguson. Although mostly demolished, the Central Barracks is a rare survival of an early cadet housing unit.
